PENAR EM SÃO PAULO: Sofrimento e mobilização na prisão contemporânea

Abstract

Neste artigo, com base em uma pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e etnográfica, exponho algumas das condições sociais que intensificam o sofrimento penitenciário no estado de São Paulo e apresento aspectos estruturantes do regime de processamento que organiza o andamento das penas nas penitenciárias paulistas. Sustento que a opacidade do sistema de justiça, a ilegibilidade dos encaminhamentos processuais e, principalmente, a indeterminação na qualidade e na duração das penas são elementos que concorrem para gerar uma experiência do tempo e da punição particular no interior das prisões de São Paulo, indexada, ademais, a toda uma dinâmica social que ultrapassa suas muralhas. Tais considerações visam a desdobrar a crítica da prisão contemporânea como mero dispositivo de contenção.
