PEG–PLGA nanoparticles for encapsulating ciprofloxacin

Abstract: Antibiotic medications have been found to hinder the success of regenerative endodontic treatment due to the rapid degradation of the drug, and the acidic nature of ciprofloxacin (CIP) can be harmful to stem cells of the apical papilla (SCAPs), the cells responsible for regeneration. In this study, a nanocarrier system was used for controlled drug release for longer drug activity and less cytotoxicity to the cells. CIP was loaded in poly (ethylene glycol) methyl ether-block-poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PEG–PLG… Show more

“…67 A similar increase in size was noticed too when drugs were encapsulated in PEG− PLGA-based nanoparticles when compared with drug-free nanoparticles. 50 The R h of ZIF particles was found to be 450 ± 40 nm, close to the literature-reported value found by Yahia et al and others. 68 The encapsulation of ZIF increased the overall size of the polymeric particles.…”

“…Standard curves were prepared using BSA (Sigma-Aldrich) in concentrations ranging from 0.2 to 1 mg/mL. Lysozyme encapsulation efficiency was calculated according to eq . , Details of nanoparticle characterization are presented in the Supporting Information (SI). % encapsulation efficiency 0.25em ( % EE ) = amount 0.25em of 0.25em protein 0.25em in 0.25em NPs initial 0.25em amount 0.25em of 0.25em protein 0.25em in 0.25em water × 100 …”

“…The clinic bacteria E. coli (BL21) and drug-resistant MRSA (ATCC43300) were chosen for the labeling experiment utilizing DAPI and PI, which would further confirm whether PAC-NPs would indeed destroy the membranes’ structure. Thus, following the previously reported double staining methods, 49 the bacteria were stained utilizing DAPI and PI before and after treatment with PAC-NPs, respectively.…”
