PEG-asparaginase in BFM-90 regimen improves outcomes in adults with newly diagnosed lymphoblastic lymphoma

Abstract: ObjectiveAlthough L-asparaginase (L-ASP) is a standard treatment for lymphoblastic lymphoma (LBL), hypersensitivity reactions by some patients limit its application. Polyethylene glycol-conjugated asparaginase (PEG-ASP) has a lower immunogenicity and is a standard treatment in all pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). In this study, we investigated the efficacy and toxicity of PEG-ASP instead of L-ASP as used in the BFM-90 regimen (PEG-ASP-BFM-90) for adult LBL.MethodsBetween June 2012 and July 2015, w… Show more

“…Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the leading causes of cancer related mortality globally (1). China has a high prevalence of GC (2), where the incidence ranked second and the mortality ranked third for all types of cancers (3). Although comprehensive studies of GC have been performed, the mechanisms of its development, progression, metastasis and invasion remain largely unclear, which greatly limits GC therapeutic treatments.…”

“…The latest report showed that lung cancer caused approximately 597,000 deaths in China in 2013 (3). Of lung cancer cases, approximately 95% are non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) (48), which together represent the most common cause of cancer-related death globally (49,50).…”

“…In China, the numbers of newly diagnosed cases and deaths were approximately 3.0 million and 1.9 million, respectively, in 2010 (2). According to 2013 data, lung cancer, liver cancer and gastric cancer are the top three leading causes of mortality in males in China, whereas lung cancer, gastric cancer and liver cancer are the top three leading causes of mortality in females (3) (Fig. 1).…”

“…Asparaginase is also used as coadjuvant in the treatment of haematological malignancies such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), therefore it is included in the list of essential medicines of the World Health Organization . Even though it is primarily used to treat ALL, clinical trials have been conducted to evaluate its effects on tumours of the lymphatic and hematopoietic system, such as lymphoblastic lymphoma and extranodal lymphoma of NK/ T cells …”
