Pedunculated Malignant Melanoma

Abstract: Pedunculated melanoma is a rare type of melanoma. Conventional staging methods for melanoma may not be reliable in this type of tumor. Complete workup, possibly including sentinel lymph node dissection, should be performed in all patients with pedunculated melanomas.

In 1958, Vogler first reported pedunculated melanoma as a more aggressive variant of nodular melanoma (8).…”

Such lesions can mimic benign skin lesions including intradermal nevus, fibroepithelial polyp, or pyogenic granuloma (1,7,8). On the other hand, SSM usually begins as a smooth or slightly elevated pigmented spot.…”
