Pedobacter riviphilus sp. nov., isolated from stream sediment

Abstract: A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile by gliding, rod-shaped and pink-coloured bacterium, designated strain SW-16T, was isolated from the sediment of small stream in the Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain SW-16T formed a lineage within the genus Pedobacter of the family Sphingobacteriaceae … Show more

“…The genus Pedobacter is a Gram-stain-negative bacteria classified under the family Sphingobacteriaceae within the phylum Bacteroidota. Members of the genus Pedobacter exhibit aerobic characteristics, positive catalase and oxidase production, and display diverse colony colours such as white, yellow, orange, and pink [2][3][4][5][6]. At the time of writing, the genus Pedobacter consists of 110 species with validly published names, as documented in the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN) taxonomy browser database (https://lpsn.dsmz.de/genus/pedobacter).…”

“…The complete genomes of Pedobacter deposited in the NCBI databases exhibit various genome sizes from 3.9 Mb (e.g., P. aquae CJ43 T ) to 6.3 Mb (e.g., P. roseus KACC 11594 T ) among the type strains. The habitats of the genus Pedobacter are widely distributed in various environments such as pine grove, forest soil, arctic soil, leaves, fragmentary rock, waterfalls, wood falls, and stream sediment [4–11]. In this study, we described a novel bacterial species, designated as strain ELA7 T from the faeces of eland ( Taurotragus oryx ) at Seoul Grand Park, a zoo in the Republic of Korea.…”
