Abstract: Focal motor signs and elevated intracranial pressure are the salient presenting features of brain tumors in children seen in Nigeria. Those of them with hydrocephalus are likely to present early. The outcome for pediatric brain tumors remains poor.

“…Likewise, Makino K. et al in a population-based epidemiological study in Japan have shown that among 210 children (younger than 15 years) with primary brain tumor, astrocytoma was the most common pathology (35.7%), with a boy to girl ratio of 1.3 [2]. Compatible results have obtained in India by Jain et al [5] and in Nigeria by Uche et al [13]. However, the epidemiological profile might be somehow different in other regions of the world.…”

“…In Nepal, these 4 tumors combined accounted for The theme of delayed presentation was observed both in our study as well as in studies of other LMICs. [21,24] Though the cultural reasons for late presentation are likely complex, there are clear socioeconomic factors that are prohibitive of earlier presentation and diagnosis. Delayed presentation and treatment likely negatively impact the survival of children in LMIC with CNS tumors.…”

“…The rate of SI associated with these causes of hydrocephalus is relatively high compared to rates with aqueduct stenosis, where 2 cases of SI occurred in 49 (1:25) patients and tumor-associated hydrocephalus with 1 case of SI was found in 24 cases (table 1). We showed in a recent paper that pediatric patients with brain tumor-associated hydrocephalus tend to present significantly earlier than brain tumor patients without hydrocephalus [12]. The most common manifestation of SI in our study was fever, which occurred in 14 (82.4%) patients.…”
