This research is important in analyzing and describing language styles, which have become one of the linguistics categories. The use of language and language style in literary works has also been studied and is very important for linguistic and literary studies. This article illustrates that stylistic analysis is an effective method to help students improve their reading and appreciation skills. It begins by briefly reviewing how stylistics is applied to teaching English by researchers. It then discusses stylistic analysis and how to do it by providing some examples. Finally, it concludes that teaching advanced English should incorporate stylistics, which are both necessary and practical. Stylistics is one of the sub-topics of learning English in high schools. It can also help students understand advertising language. It also helps students learn foreign languages in English language teaching, such as Indonesian, by preparing them to learn and use foreign languages effectively. Furthermore, Students are expected to be able to understand the language of advertising. To understand the language of advertising, teachers must provide understanding to students through stylistics.

There is a longstanding stigma attached to the use of poetry in English Language Teaching (ELT). Poetry is considered difficult and peripheral to ELT curricula and L2 teacher education. Until recently, there was little scholarly interest in studying the effectiveness of poetry in second language teaching. This article aims to advance the research on the use of poetry in ELT. Using a systematic literature review approach covering the years 2008–2020, the present study investigates whether poetry remains underused and undervalued. It is structured around the questions: Is poetry a difficult subject to teach to ESL/EFL learners and learn by L2 students? What value is there to teaching poetry in ELT? Of the 199 peer reviewed journal articles retrieved, 43 met the inclusion criteria for this study and were examined in-depth. Two themes emerged from the analysis: the perception of poetry and using poetry as a research tool in ELT. The majority of evidence was qualitative research, which included 19 case studies; whereas, the most used quantitative research designs were Random Control Trials. We attest to the need for more rigorous scholarship on the part of researchers. Results show that poetry is a valuable tool for ESL/EFL students and teachers, and not difficult for L2 learners. This study concludes with a call for including poetry in teaching practices.

Knowing about the linguistic and stylistic features of any literary texts in general and the aspect of lexical pattern in particular, concerning the way through which the author uses adjectives, verbs, nouns and adverbs provide us with precious information that can be helpful in judging about the appropriateness of the text to be used for a specific purpose such as teaching to EFL students in a specific level. Therefore, according to the importance of this issue, and based on the checklist of linguistic and stylistic categories proposed by Leech and Short (2000), the stylistic analysis of the short story entitled “Eleven” written by Sandra Cisneros was performed in this study from the lexical category dimension. In the end, the results and findings of the study are elaborated and discussed, with the conclusion that the author was successful in using the appropriate diction and linguistic features to express her main points from the tongue of an Eleven-year-old kid who is also ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, two and one year old.
