Peculiarities of K2PdCl4 and K2PtCl4 Complexation with Polymer-Supported Dibenzo-18-crown-6

Abstract: Dibenzo-18-crown-6 supported on a styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer matrix (PDB18C6) was found to be an efficient sorbent of Pd(II) and Pt(II) from aqueous K 2 PdCl 4 and K 2 PtCl 4 solutions, respectively, because of formation of complex ion pairs where K + was coordinated with the crown ether moiety while the platinides(II) were present in the paired anionic species. Sorption stoichiometry and binding constants determined for the interaction of PDB18C6 with K 2 PdCl 4 and K 2 PtCl 4 were distinctive. On the b… Show more

“…Black corresponds to the bare AuNR seeds in 16% MeOH and 20 mM HCl. Here, MeOH acted as a sacrificial hole scavenger, , and HCl provided solvated Cl – anions to prevent hydrolysis/oxolation of H 2 PdCl 4 (not present at this step) into PdO x . Blue indicates the AuNR solution (with MeOH and HCl) after complexing with added [PdCl 4 ] 2– in the dark for 1 h at a 1:5 Pd:Au atomic ratio, shown by Ortiz et al to exhibit optimal photocatalytic performance.…”

“…The pendant groups in question have (i) one, (ii) two, and (iii) three nitrogen atoms in 18-crown 6-ethers. Reports detailing the preparation of nitrogen containing crown ethers exist in the literature. Moreover, there exist synthetic strategies for post-functionalization reactions where a polymer backbone bearing a reactive group, such as −CH 2 Cl, can react with a group on the crown ether (such as an amine) in order to create pendant crown ethers bound to a polymer backbone. This indicates that the experimental synthesis of the proposed PEMs would be a very feasible process.…”
