Peak‐to‐average power ratio reduction in space frequency block coding multi‐input multi‐output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems by tone reservation

Abstract: SUMMARY In this paper, a tone reservation (TR) method is employed to reduce the peak‐to‐average power ratio (PAPR) in multi‐input multi‐output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems with space frequency block coding (SFBC). The key idea of the employed TR method is taking signals on multiple transmit antennas into account to design appropriate peak reduction symbols, which can significantly reduce the PAPR of SFBC multi‐input multi‐output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signals. With the… Show more

“…The PAPR problem imposes substantial challenges on the practical design of power amplifiers that have a limited linear range. Diverse techniques of PAPR reduction have been investigated not only for conventional OFDM [41], but also for ST-/SF-aided MIMO-OFDM systems [42][43][44][45][46][47].…”

“…However, although both orthogonal frequency-division multiple access and SC-FDMA have retained the advantages of OFDM, they have also inherited its weaknesses, one of which is the problem of a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). So far, several countermeasures, such as the partial transmit sequence (PTS), 1-3 selective mapping (SLM), [4][5][6] tone reservation (TR), [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] block codes, 15,16 and tone injection (TI), 17,18 have been implemented to improve the PAPR. Both the PTS and SLM are types of the multiple signal representation technique.…”

“…Among the MIMO techniques used in MIMO MB‐OFDM UWB systems, Linear Dispersion Space‐Time Block Codes (LD‐STBCs), proposed in , play important roles because they can achieve full spatial diversity. These codes have been extensively investigated in the literature . In this paper, we introduce the LD‐STBC MB‐OFDM UWB system.…”
