PdTeI and Pd2SeI3 ‐ The First Chalcogenide Halides of a Platinum Metal

Abstract: room temperature with insertion of the alkyne into the metalcarbene bond to give alkenyl(amin0)carbene complexes[2]. On warming a typical representative of this class of compounds, pentacarbonyl[diethylamino(cL-diethylamino-P-methoxystyryl)carbene]chromium ( I ) , in decane, a CO ligand cis to the carbene ligand is substituted intramolecularly by the amino function of the styryl substituent, leading to formation of the tetracarbonyl complex (2). Stronger heating of the solution results in the loss of further C… Show more

“…PdTeI was originally characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction and assigned the P4 2 /mmc space group with lattice parameters of a ¼ 7.808(2) Å and c ¼ 5.660(1) Å. 12 This structure is intriguing given that, assuming oxidation states of 2-and 1for tellurium and iodine, as bond valence sums suggest, the formal oxidation state of Pd in this material is 3+. This is a highly unusual oxidation state for palladium, which instead tends to disproportionate into Pd 2+ and Pd 4+ .…”

“…Given the local coordinate system shown in 5, the t g levels of a regular octahedral Pd¸ are described by the (1) xz, yz, and x!y orbitals of Pd, and the e g levels by the xy and z orbitals of Pd. In the distorted octahedron PdTe I of each Pd> (d) cation, the Pd-Te N bond is longer than the Pd-Te # bond, and the Pd-Te N bonds are tilted away from the z axis.…”
