PDMS-ZnO Piezoelectric Nanocomposites for Pressure Sensors

Abstract: The addition of piezoelectric zinc oxide (ZnO) fillers into a flexible polymer matrix has emerged as potential piezocomposite materials that can be used for applications such as energy harvesters and pressure sensors. A simple approach for the fabrication of PDMS-ZnO piezoelectric nanocomposites based on two ZnO fillers: nanoparticles (NP) and nanoflowers (NF) is presented in this paper. The effect of the ZnO fillers’ geometry and size on the thermal, mechanical and piezoelectric properties is discussed. The s… Show more

“…Typically, crystal salts are used in higher mass percent content [12,14] and removal of macro-sized crystals from PDMS can be difficult and energy consuming due to the intricate pore connection. [14,30,31] These differences could explain the larger mass absorption capacity of sponges prepared with only 15% w/w of ZnO nanoparticles.…”

“…Thereafter, curing was performed at 100 °C for 48 min in an oven to complete the fabrication of bulk PDMS, followed by cooling and removal from the Petri dish [ 18 ]. Finally, the PDMS was cut using a mold made according to the ASTM D412 model [ 30 , 31 , 32 ].…”

“…Flexible pressure sensors have been widely concerned by researchers due to their great application prospects in health monitoring, , medical care, , and human–computer interaction. , According to their sensing mechanism, flexible pressure sensors can be mainly divided into piezoresistive sensor, piezocapacitive sensor, and piezoelectric sensor. , Among them, piezocapacitive sensors have been widely studied because of their simple structure, low power consumption, good stability, and fast dynamic response. However, piezocapacitive sensors often face the problem of low sensitivity.…”
