PDGF: the nuts and bolts of signalling toolbox

Abstract: PDGF is a growth factor and is extensively involved in multi-dimensional cellular dynamics. It switches on a plethora of molecules other than its classical pathway. It is engaged in various transitions of development; however, if the unleashed potentials lead astray, it brings forth tumourigenesis. Conventionally, it has been assumed that the components of this signalling pathway show fidelity and act with a high degree of autonomy. However, as illustrated by the PDGF signal transduction, reinterpretation of r… Show more

“…Overexpression of miR-219-5p reduced the activation of PI3K/Akt pathway, suggesting that the down-regulation of miR-219-5p could be contributing to the increased activity of these pathways in CRC. However, PDGFRα, which was littler detected in colon cancer cells [35], could activate other RTK pathways for expanding its effect when sensitized [17]. And our experiment didn't perform the exogenous PDGFRα rescue assay in miR-219-5p overexpressed cells to illustrate the specificity of miR-219-5p/ PDGFRα axis.…”

“…The PDGF receptor (PDGFR) signaling pathway is involved in the progression of cancer [16,17] and can be activated through the autocrine system to promote cell proliferation and survival, improve migration and invasion abilities, and stimulate angiogenesis in cancer [16][17][18]. Recent research revealed that PDGFR was upregulated in CRC and correlated with advanced tumor stage and lymph node metastasis [19].…”

“…PDGF-BB has a direct relationship with cell transformation and tumour growth and progression. [8][9][10] Normally, it is expressed at undetectable or low levels, but it is overexpressed in malignant tumour cells. Therefore, sensitive detection of PDGF-BB is quite important for effective diagnosis and prognosis of many diseases.…”
