Pd‐Catalyzed CChalcogen Bond Formation (CS, CSe) by CH Bond Activation

Abstract: Organosulfur and organoselenium compounds are indisputable key compounds in material science, agrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. Therefore, the quest for efficient methodologies to access sulfur‐ and selenium‐containing molecules has aroused the interest of the scientific community. In the past decade, transition metal‐catalyzed CH bond activation appeared to be a powerful and more sustainable tool to reach high molecular complexity from non‐pre‐functionalized substrates. This article summarizes the … Show more

“…Although the transitionmetal-catalyzed direct C-H bond functionalization appeared to be a powerful tool for the installation of C-C, C-N, or C-O bonds, the direct formation of a C(sp 2 )-SR F or a C(sp 3 )-SR F bond remains a challenging task. In this context, key players in the field have been interested in the design of original methodologies for the trifluoromethylthiolation and more recently the difluoromethylthiolation of various compounds by transitionmetal catalysis [78]. Moreover, a recent interest was devoted to the trifluoromethylselenolation reaction as depicted in this section.…”

“…[4] Despite significant advances, the formation of CÀ S bond by CÀ H bond activation remains an underexplored area. [5] Pursuing our efforts on the development of innovative transformations to forge CÀ S bond by Pd-catalyzed CÀ H bond activation, [6] we aimed at tackling the unmet challenge to build up a C(sp 2 )À SCF 2 FG (FG = functional group) by CÀ H bond activation, with a particular focus on the SCF 2 CO 2 Et moiety, due to its versatility and the lack of available methods to introduce it on molecules.…”
