Dendritic cells (DCs) are most potent antigen presenting cells (APCs) with unique ability to prime effective immune responses. They express higher levels of MHC class II and accesory molecules on their surface, than other professional APCs. The investigations were performed on DCs generated from blood with the use of microbeads magnetically labeled with mouse anti human CD14. Flow cytometry was applied for determination of DCs immunophenotype in healthy and naturally infected with BLV cattle. For immunophenotyping mouse monoclonal antibodies anti bovine: CD11a, CD11b, CD11c, MHC-I and MHC-II were used. Our results demonstrated that dendritic cells infected with BLV expressed very high percentage of determinants: CD11a, CD11b, CD11c, MHC-I and MHC-II class. Leukaemic DCs exhibited DCs morphology and had a phenotype of mature DCs. The expression of gp51 glycoprotein of BLV on leukaemic DCs was detected in flow cytometry investigations.

Experimental studies have shown that dioxin-like chemicals may interfere with aspects of the endocrine system including growth. However, human background population studies are, however, scarce. We aimed to investigate whether early exposure of healthy infants to dioxin-like chemicals was associated with changes in early childhood growth and serum IGF1. In 418 maternal breast milk samples of Danish children (born 1997-2001) from a longitudinal cohort, we measured polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, polychlorinated dibenzofurans, and polychlorinated biphenyls (pg or ng/g lipid) and calculated total toxic equivalent (total TEQ). SDS and SDS changes over time (DSDS) were calculated for height, weight, BMI, and skinfold fat percentage at 0, 3, 18, and 36 months of age. Serum IGF1 was measured at 3 months. We adjusted for confounders using multivariate regression analysis. Estimates (in parentheses) correspond to a fivefold increase in total TEQ. TEQ levels in breast milk increased significantly with maternal age and fish consumption and decreased with maternal birth year, parity, and smoking. Total TEQ was associated with lower fat percentage (K0.45 S.D., CI: K0.89; K0.04), non-significantly with lower weight and length at 0 months, accelerated early height growth (increased DSDS) (DSDS 0-18 months: C0.77 S.D., CI: 0.34; 1.19) and early weight increase (DSDS 0-18: C0.52 S.D., CI: 0.03; 1.00), and increased IGF1 serum levels at 3 months (C13.9 ng/ml, CI: 2.3; 25.5). Environmental exposure to dioxin-like chemicals was associated with being skinny at birth and with higher infant levels of circulating IGF1 as well as accelerated early childhood growth (rapid catch-up growth).

RESUMENLa presencia de plaguicidas organoclorados en el ambiente es preocupante por su persistencia, potencial de transporte a larga distancia y grado de toxicidad para la fauna y los seres humanos. En México, Chiapas ocupa el primer lugar en la producción de alimentos orgánicos, y Tecpatán es el principal municipio productor de leche orgánica. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la presencia de plaguicidas organoclorados en forraje para ganado lechero en unidades de producción de leche orgánica. Se eligieron tres unidades de producción de leche orgánica y se colectaron muestras de forraje y leche en cada unidad. Los plaguicidas se extrajeron y purificaron con base en lo establecido por la USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) y se analizaron por cromatografía de gases con detector de captura de electrones. Los compuestos que rebasaron el límite máximo permisible según el Codex Alim entarius fueron lindano, heptacloro + epóxido de heptacloro y aldrín + dieldrín (37.5 ± 84, 62 ± 125 y 20 ± 50 ng.g ABSTRACTThe presence of organochlorine pesticides in the environment is a current topic due to the persistence, potential for long-range transport and toxicity to wildlife and humans. In Mexico, Chiapas has the first place in the production of organic food, where Tecpatan municipality is the first place of organic milk. Twenty-five years ago the farmers did not use organochlorine pesticides, but some conventional farmers employ this compounds for controlling pests and disease vectors with knowledge of the health authorities. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of organochlorine pesticides in feed for dairy cattle production of organic milk. Three production units of organic milk samples were chosen to collect fodder and milk for one year, considering wet and dry season. Pesticides were extracted and purified based on the provisions of the USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) and analyzed by gas chromatography with electron capture detector (ECD 63 Ni). The compounds that exceeded the maximum permissible limit by the Codex Alim entarius were lindane, heptachlor and heptachlor epoxide + aldrin + dieldrin (37.5 ± 84, 125 ± 62 and 20 ± 50 basis ng.g -1 fatty base, respectively). In the forage samples the higher values were alpha + beta-HCH, lindane and heptachlor + heptachlor epoxide (76.3 ± 140, 105 ± 43 ng.g-1 and 40 ± 76 ng.g -1 dry weight). It is likely that the strong presence of these compounds is due to their use in vector control in health campaigns or ectoparasites of livestock in the region by conventional producers.
