PCA based hybrid Taguchi philosophy for optimization of multiple responses in EDM

Abstract: The present study is aimed at a multi-response optimization problem by applying Principal Component Analysis (PCA) combined with Taguchi method. The investigation has been carried out through a case study in Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) of D2 steel by using copper, brass and Direct Metal Laser Sintered (DMLS) electrode produced by direct metal laser sintering using Directmetal20. The research work has been carried out to evaluate the best parametric combination which could fulfill multiple responses like… Show more

“…Based on the analysis of the S/N ratio calculation, a larger S/N ratio results in accordance with the ideal performance characteristics regardless of the category of performance characteristics. This means that the largest value indicates the best combination to achieve optimal results (Mohanty et al, 2019).…”

“…Later, the Multi-Performance Index (MPI) was calculated using Eq. ( 10) and tabulated in Table 7 [41]. MPI = 0.342Z 1 + 0.262Z 2 + 0.253Z 3 + 0.1Z 4 + 0.043Z 5 .…”

“…One can easily get the overall idea about the system model, reason for changes in the outputs and establish the cause and effect relationship. In recent years, different statistical methods such as factorial design, different regression techniques, analysis of variance (ANOVA), response surface methodology (RSM) and Taguchi methodology are widely used for analysis and optimization of process parameters [35][36][37][38].…”
