Design and implementation of an open-source-based supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for a community solar-powered reverse osmosis are presented in this paper. A typical SCADA system available on the market is proprietary and has a high initial and maintenance cost. Aside from that, there is no SCADA system with an alert system available to give users updates and status information concerning the system. The objective of this study is to develop a comprehensive SCADA design that takes advantage of open-source technology to address the world’s most pressing problem, access to clean water. The designed reverse Osmosis system also uses renewable energy-based power sources. In this system, all data is stored and analyzed locally, which ensures the data is secure and allows the user to make data-driven decisions based on the collected data. Among the main components of this system are the field instrument devices (FIDs), the remote terminal unit (RTU), the main terminal units (MTUs), the web-based programming software, and the data analytics software. The Node-Red programming and dashboard tool, Grafana for data analytics, and InfluxDB for database management run on the main terminal unit having Debian operating system. Data is transmitted from the FIDs to the RTU, which then redirects it to the MTU via serial communication. Node-Red displays the data processed by the MTU on its dashboard as well, as the data is stored locally on the MTU and is displayed by means of Grafana, which is also installed on the same MTU. Through the Node-Red dashboard, the system is controlled, and notifications are sent to the community.

The implementation of a SCADA application on the Central Liquor Factory "Agustin Rodriguez Mena" belonging to the Company Cubaron has eliminated the low interconnectivity between machines installed and it has avoided the need to establish control strict on ingredients used in the elaboration of the final product. After completion of preliminary studies on the particularities of the industry and instrumentation contained therein, the identification of main control variables in the PLC has taken place and modifications were made in the PLC program for the variables that would be reflected in the SCADA and OPC server for communication. The control and monitoring of the overall process of rum manufacturing will increase efficiency, it will allow for rapid detection of faults in the system and it will make easier the work of operators.

The aim of this paper is to present the process of water treatment in a thermal power plant (TPP) in the one hand, and an application of a supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) on the other hand. In fact, almost all critical industrial infrastructures and processes are managed remotely from central control rooms, using computers and communications networks. Thus, the architecture of the supervisory system and the different steps of the supervision application of the water treatment process of a TPP have been presented. Our contribution consists in programming and visualizing new parameters of the chemical analysis (pH and conductivity) of the water -steam cycle to a SCADA system. The achieved supervision application is going to facilitate the work of both laboratory and instrumentation agents of the water treatment process in the TPP.
