PbMnIn2S5: Synthesis, Structure, and Properties. -The new title compound is synthesized by solid state reaction of the elements (1100°C, 70 h) and characterized by single crystal XRD, UV/VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. PbMnIn2S5 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm with Z = 1 (Sr 2 Tl 2 O 5 -type structure). The structure consists of corrugated layers of (In1/Mn1)S 6 octahedra that are further interconnected by chains of edge-sharing (In2/Mn2)S6 octahedra into a three-dimensional framework. The Pb 2+ cations are located in face sharing PbS8 bicapped triangular prisms. The compound exhibits antiferromagnetic interactions between the high-spin Mn 2+ cations and an optical band gap of about 1.45 eV. -(YU, P.; WU, L.-M.; CHEN*, L.; Inorg.
