Patterns of working hour characteristics and risk of sickness absence among shift-working hospital employees: a data-mining cohort study

Abstract: Electronic payroll and work shift-scheduling systems automatically gather large quantities of data on working hour characteristics that could inform about unhealthy work exposures. Traditional hypothesis-driven research is slow to explore this data space. Using data-mining solution, we identified previously unknown unhealthy working hour patterns in shift work, providing a proof of concept for hypothesis-free approaches in occupational health research.
