“…The entire non‐volant small mammal fauna of Paraguay consistently formed a distinct compartment along with other Interior AF sites. Paraguayan AF fragments have non‐volant small mammal communities comprised of species that phylogenetically are closely related to species from three different regions (de la Sancha, ): (1) southern coastal AF, including parts of Argentina, Uruguay and south‐eastern Brazil (de la Sancha et al ., , ; Valdez & D'Elía, ), (2) central and northern Brazil (de la Sancha et al ., ), and (3) the Chaco and Cerrado of Paraguay and Brazil (de la Sancha, ). The presence of Paraguayan compartments supports the contention that coastal and interior portions of the AF are distinct biogeographical units (Chebez & Massoia, ).…”

“…As a result of a recent study of the effects of habitat fragmentation on the biodiversity of small mammals in eastern Paraguay (de la Sancha, 2010(de la Sancha, , 2014, we have collected parasite samples in several cricetid rodents. Herein, we describe a new species of Litomosoides Chandler, 1931 (Nematoda, Onchocercidae) parasitising the body cavity of the tuft-toed rice rat Sooretamys angouya (Fischer).…”

“…As such, Cryptonanus chacoensis singles out from all small marsupials, given its distribution east and west of the Paraguay River occupying a wide range of habitats, from the Dry Chaco to subtropical Interior Atlantic Forest remnants , de la Sancha 2014. Gracilinanus is only found east of the Paraguay River; the record from the Chaco provided by Yahnke (2006) is based on a specimen of C. chacoensis (FMNH 164089).…”
