“…Centropomus parallelus is now considered as amphidromous, i.e. it migrates between fresh water and salt water during a portion of its life cycle (Riede, 2004;Silvano et al, 2006;Fortes et al, 2014). It has a feeding regime mainly based on fishes, insects and crustaceans, although early juveniles are also zooplanktivorous (Corrêa & Uieda, 2007;Alvarez-Lajonchère & Tsuzuki, 2008;Feltrin-Contente et al, 2009).…”

“…Fish and crustacean abundances were used to compare the two periods (before and after channel opening) considering faunal distribution in each season and the main environmental factors that contributed to this distribution. Habitat differences between sampling sites were not considered due to previous non‐significant results (Fortes et al , ). Abundance data were fourth root transformed to construct the association matrix aiming to reduce dominant species effects, and then the Hellinger distance calculated, following Legendre & Gallagher () in order to reduce data distortions (Rao, ), and to maintain the best compromise between linearity and resolution (Legendre & Legendre, ).…”
