Patterns and mechanisms influencing plant diversity in an arid desert region riparian zone of the Aqikesu River, Xinjiang, China

Abstract: Plant diversity in riparian areas is an important topic in restoration ecology and biodiversity conservation science. The Aqikesu River in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, a typical inland river in this arid desert region, is the only river located in the Ebinur Lake Wetland National Nature Reserve and thus plays a crucial role in maintaining balanced and sustainable development of the local ecosystem. “…The flux tower was positioned approximately 100 m from the north bank of the Aqikesu River (44°37′4.8″N, 83°33′59.4″E) within the nature reserve, with a construction height of 33 m ( Teng et al., 2021 ). There are over 30 species of plants in the study area ( Zhang et al., 2015 ).
