Pattern Synthesis of Conformal Antenna Array by the Hybrid Genetic Algorithm

Abstract: Abstract-Desired far-field radiation patterns of 5 × 11 conformal antenna array are synthesized using a hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA), which combines the simplified quadratic interpolation (SQI) method and the real-coded genetic algorithm (RCGA). This hybrid genetic algorithm is shown to outperform standard genetic algorithm (GA) when used to synthesize amplitude weights of the elements to satisfy specified deep notches, nulls and average sidelobe level constraints. The HGA procedure appears to be a high effe… Show more

“…There are a wide variety of techniques that have been developed for the synthesis of linear and planar arrays . To complete this kind of optimization, global optimization methods are usually used, such as genetic algorithms (GA) [3][4][5], particle swarm optimization (PSO) [6,7] and differential evolution (DE) algorithm. A hybrid genetic algorithm is used to synthesize desired far-field radiation patterns of conformal antenna array [3].…”

A comparison study between phase-only and amplitudephase synthesis of symmetric dual-pattern linear antenna arrays using floating-point or real-valued genetic algorithms is given in [4].…”

“…SLL(θ, ϕ) and SLL 0 represent respectively the obtained and desired the side-lobe level of each beam, and k 1 , k 2 are weighting coefficients to control the importance of the items described in the above equation. Appropriate weighting coefficients could make all the parameter of DBF array optimized [17][18][19][20][21]. Utilizing the 16 × 61 = 976 complex phase and amplitude excitation coefficients calculated by GA, the simulated radiation pattern of 16-beam DBF array is depicted in Fig.…”

“…Its advantages include dramatic reduction of aerodynamic drag and the weight of arrays, wide angle coverage of 360 • , space-saving, reduction of radar cross-section, as well as potential increase in available aperture. Much of the existing research in conformal antenna array has mainly focused on the design of antenna elements [3][4][5], the pattern synthesis and optimization of conformal antenna [6][7][8][9][10]. The high resolution direction of arrival (DOA) estimation algorithms [11][12][13][14] based on conformal antenna array has not been studied as intensively [15,16].…”
