Patrony: A mobile application for pattern recognition learning

Abstract: Pattern recognition is an important skill of Computational Thinking and is one of the most important competences for solving a problem that involves finding similarities or patterns in small problems to solve more complex ones. In this work, we present the mobile application software Patrony. The main contribution of this work is to promote the learning of Computational Thinking, especially pattern recognition, in specific sectors of education in Mexico through the simple use of a software application. To eval… Show more

“…In our analysis, we identified four main subject areas in the 55 studies ( Cui, 2020;Psycharis & Kallia, 2017;Shumway et al, 2021;Wang et al, 2022), concepts (Cui & Ng, 2021;Rodríguez-Martínez et al, 2020;Sáez-L opez et al, 2019), habits of mind (Pei et al, 2018), and specific thinking skills (Barr on-Estrada et al, 2022;Città et al, 2019;Kim et al, 2021;Lockwood, 2022;Lockwood & De Chenne, 2020;Nogueira et al, 2022;Palmér, 2017;Sung & Black, 2020).…”

“…. The first study reports the development and experimentation of Patrony, a software application to promote the learning of CT, especially PR [Barrón-Estrada et al 2022]. The software presents sequences of simple images and offers the user multiple choices for completing/continuing the sequence.…”

“…Additionally, due to the utilization of a live webinar to validate the subaxial cervical spine injury classification, participating members were given limited time to classify each injury. This may have led some members who process images at a slower rate, have less experience, or are not fluent in the English language to struggle with completing the validation in a timely fashion, which could have artificially suppressed the reliability and reproducibility of the classification [16][17][18][19]. However, given the substantial to excellent reliability and reproducibility of the classification system on a global level, this was likely of limited significance.…”
