Older age, obesity, hypertension, snoring, and excessive daytime sleepiness have been associated with sleep apnea. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence (crude and adjusted), as well as the risk factors, of sleep apnea in the adult Canadian population. Data from the 2009 Sleep Apnea Rapid Response (SARR) questionnaire were used to identify the risk factors, and all sleep-related questions in the SARR questionnaire were used. The outcome variable of interest was health professional-diagnosed sleep apnea. Covariates of interest were demographic variables, population characteristics, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and enabling resources. The multiple logistic regression model adjusted for the clustering effect was used to analyze the data. Sleep apnea was diagnosed in 858,913 adults (3.4% of the population), and more men (65.4%) than women (34.6%) were diagnosed with sleep apnea. Multivariable logistic regression analysis indicated that age (45 and older), loud snoring, sudden awakening with gasping/choking (rare/sometimes and once or more a week), and nodding off/falling asleep in driving in the past 12 months were significantly associated with diagnosed sleep apnea. Predictive probability demonstrated that in overweight and obese persons, ≥15 minutes of daily exercise significantly decreased the risk of diagnosed sleep apnea. The conclusion of this study is that in the Canadian population, sleep apnea is associated with older age, loud snoring, and sleeping problems. The protective effect of exercise warrants further investigation.

Am ma aç ç: : 2011-2013 yılları arasında, Van ili ve çevresinden hastanemize başvuran ve polisomnografi (uyku testi) yapılan hastaların demografik ve polisomnografik sonuçlarını bildirmektir. G Ge er re eç ç v ve e Y Yö ön nt te em ml le er r: : Hasta bilgilerine Van Bölge Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Uyku Laboratuvarı bilgisayar arşivinden ve otomasyon sisteminden ulaşıldı. B Bu ul lg gu ul la ar r: : 2011-2013 yılları arasında 441 hastaya polisomnografi testi yapıldı. Polisomnografi yapılan kişilerin yaş ortalaması 47,56±12,36 yıl olarak saptandı. Hastaların %45,4 (n=200)'ü kadın, %54,6 (n=241)'sı erkek idi. Uyku polikliniğine başvuran hastalarda majör semptomlardan horlama %92,3 (n=407), tanıklı apne %76 (n=335), gündüz aşırı uyku hâli %29,7 (n=131) olarak saptandı. Polisomnografi yapılan kişilerin %83,7 (n=369)'sinde uykuda solunum bozukluğu bulundu. Polisomnografi yapılan hastaların %63,7 (n=281)'sinde ağır derece obstrüktif uyku apne sendromu (OUAS), %10,2 (n=45)'sinde orta derece OUAS, %5,3 (n=20)'ünde hafif derece OUAS, %3,9 (n=17)'unda üst solunum yolu rezistans sendromu (ÜARS), %1,4 (n=6)'ünde santral uyku apne sendromu saptandı. Hastaların %18,6 (n=69)'sında diabetes mellitus (DM), %34,9 (n=129)'unda hipertansiyon, %18,4 (n=68)'ünde obezite hipoventilasyon, %21,4 (n=79)'ünde KOAH, %5,9 (n=22)'unda kalp yetersizliği, %7,8 (n=29)'inde koroner arter hastalığı, %4,8 (n=18)'inde kalp kapak hastalığı belirlendi. Titrasyona alınan 175 hastaya otomotik CPAP (APAP) cihazı, 45 hastaya CPAP cihazı, 28 hastaya BPAP cihazı, 14 hastaya ASV cihazı, 31 hastaya BPAP-ST cihazı rapor edildi. On dokuz (%5,1) hastaya üst solunum yolu operasyonu önerildi. On beş (%4) hasta tedaviyi reddetti. İki yıllık takipte 3 hasta hayatını kaybetti. S So on nu uç ç: : Polisomnografi yapılan hastaların büyük çoğunluğunun horlama şikayeti ile başvurduğu ve ek hastalıklara sahip olduğu saptandı. Ağır derece OUAS tanısının yüksek sıklıkta olduğu, en sık rapor edilen cihazın otomotik CPAP (APAP) cihazı olduğu belirlendi.
