Patients' Perceptions Regarding Microimplant as Anchorage in Orthodontics

Abstract: Objective: To determine patients' expectations, acceptance, and experience of pain with microimplant surgery compared to other orthodontic procedures. Materials and Methods: Seventy-eight microimplants were placed in 37 patients as an anchorage unit for orthodontic treatment. Patients were asked to rate anticipated pain and pain experienced with various orthodontic procedures (tooth extraction, insertion of separators, initial tooth alignment, and microimplant surgery) on a visual analog scale (VAS) over a 7-d… Show more

“…The difference between these two screws (self-cutting and self-drilling) has been examined biomechanically and histologically in several study levels [15]. The success rate and degree of post-operative discomfort after mini-implant insertion has been briefly investigated [3,22,24,47]. Nevertheless, there is still no study comparing the two methods from the patient's perspective and this is also true regarding injection techniques.…”

“…Auf biomechanischer sowie histologischer Ebene ist der Unterschied der verschiedenen Schrauben (selbstschneidend/selbstbohrend) bereits in einigen Studien untersucht worden [15]. Die Erfolgsrate sowie postoperative Beschwerden nach der Mini-Implantatinsertion wurden bereits teilweise untersucht [3,22,24,47]. Trotzdem liegen bislang keine Studien vor, in denen die beiden Methoden aus der Perspektive der Patienten miteinander verglichen werden.…”

“…In order to make this endodontic surgical procedure available to future patients and dentists unfamiliar with the procedure, it would be valuable to assess apicoectomy not only from a scientific point of view, but also from the patients who underwent the procedure. [6][7][8] This study investigated the patient' s perception and satisfaction for apicoectomy with retrofilling by survey.…”
