Patient satisfaction with occlusal scheme of conventional complete dentures

Abstract: Occlusal scheme is a controversial topic that has been linked to patient satisfaction with conventional complete dentures (CCDs). This study aimed to compare the patient satisfaction with CCDs with four different occlusal schemes namely the lingualised occlusion (LO), buccalised occlusion (BO), fully bilateral balanced occlusion (FBBO) and partially group function occlusion (PGFO). In this clinical study, new CCDs were made for 121 patients; out of which, 97 patients (mean age of 57.87 ± 9.5 years) completed t… Show more

“…The importance of occlusion has been discussed in several publications. Significantly less patient satisfaction in terms of comfort, stability, and retention of complete dentures with partially group-function occlusion was reported as compared to complete dentures with balanced occlusal schemes, such as buccalised occlusion [ 13 , 14 ]. Similarly, Abduo (2013) systematic review and Poštić et al (1992) study concluded that bilaterally balanced occlusion or lingualized bilaterally balanced occlusion was equally acceptable to patients in relation to their masticatory ability, esthetics, comfort, and speech.…”

“…Oral Health Impact Pro le for Edentulous Patients (OHIP-EDENT), with a higher score meaning poor quality of life, is also used in the latest clinical studies [42][43][44][45][46][47][48] , and thus justifying the great importance of this work and our idea for translation and psychometric properties on the Bosnian language. Therefore, translation and psychometric properties of scales into different languages provides a better clinical outcome for patients using these scales on the maternal language.…”

“…This test verifies if the groups’ responses are so different that they cannot be considered to belong to the same population. Its null hypothesis is no difference between the groups’ responses [ 56 ]. The results of the Kruskal–Wallis test indicated that the responses of the three groups of respondents were not statistically different.…”
