This article is devoted to the statistical analysis of security and safety frequency in the context of categories connected with social institutions and personality features in research works from 2004–2019. Research was based on the following methods: quantitative analysis of safety frequency in the context with coded “categories” related to social institutions and personality features; analysis was conducted with computer-assisted content analysis QDA Miner Lite v. 1.4 and Fisher’s F-test. An analysis of 1157 works showed that the terms “security” and “safety” were quantitatively more frequent when used with concepts related to social institutions than with concepts related to personality features. In our opinion, this qualitative trend shows the prevailing significance of social aspects of security over its personal (psychological) traits for research analysis and practical social aspects. The priority usage of the terms “security” and “safety” can be related to the securitization of society, (i.e., to the increased role and significance of social ways of providing security and protection from threats), primarily with the help of external law-enforcing actors such as the state, police, and army. Securitization counterweights the development of social and psychological mechanisms of security—developing motivation for safe behavior, personal self-regulation, and self-production of security as an internal feeling of protection.

Patient safety (PS) education must be provided to medical personnel who deal with life and death situations. This study aimed to examine the current state of PS education and to investigate the factors affecting the willingness of undergraduate nursing students to participate in PS. This study was a cross-sectional descriptive correlational survey. In this study, an online survey targeting members of an online café in South Korea that prepares nursing students was conducted from 19–21 April 2023. In total, 296 undergraduate nursing students in their fourth grade at 132 nursing colleges across the country participated. The results showed that 94.6% (280 students) had experience in PS education and 45.6% (135 students) had witnessed a PS incident in clinical practice. Most students (90.9%) responded that PS education was necessary and that ‘clinical practice at the hospital’ was the most effective method of PS education. PS perception increased as PS knowledge increased, and it was confirmed that an increase in PS perception increased the willingness to participate in PS. Factors that increased nursing students’ willingness to participate in PS were high satisfaction with clinical practice, high PS education needs, and high PS perception scores. To increase nursing students’ willingness to participate in PS, it is important to improve their PS perception and ensure that they have a variety of PS education experiences, which requires the development of a standardized PS education program.

In the current healthcare scenario, several factors have been identified as threats for medical education. The increase in litigations, working-time directives, patient safety issues and a higher social demand for specialists have forced medical educators to look for new alternatives to traditional teaching. Simulation provides a recreation of a clinical situation, allowing the student to acquire skills and competences that then can be translated to real life practice. This article summarises the key concepts of simulation, the educational theories that back up its use, its limitations and the available evidence in regards to its use. ResumenEn el contexto clínico actual, diversos factores entorpecen la formación de médicos y especialistas. La judicialización de la práctica médica, legislaciones que limitan las horas trabajadas, una cultura de trabajo que no admite errores y una mayor demanda por especialistas son desafíos que han obligado a docentes a buscar nuevas herramientas. La simulación permite recrear una situación clínica, permitiendo al alumno adquirir competencias previo a su aplicación en la vida real. Este trabajo resume los conceptos actuales en simulación, las bases teóricas educacionales que explican su utilidad, sus limitaciones y la evidencia disponible sobre su utilización.
