“…Satisfaction with outcome and long‐term results is an ongoing issue of debate. Many state that an autologous reconstruction should be considered the gold standard (Jagsi et al, ; Weichman et al, ). Autologous reconstructions have been found to render high level of patient satisfaction and long lasting results (Alderman et al, ; Cohen et al, ; Mehrara et al, ; Yueh et al, ).…”

“…In a study by Weichman et al, only patients with BMI <22 were included and autologous microsurgical reconstructions were compared to expander/implant based reconstructions. Their analysis of unilateral results in a slim population found that patient‐reported satisfaction and quality of life was higher for autologous breast reconstruction as measured by BREAST‐Q (Weichman et al, ). This study unfortunately reported low response rate (49.2%), and further studies on patients' satisfaction and quality of life are needed in this specific patient group.…”

“…BREAST-Q is a self-administered questionnaire, and thus, the recall bias had to be reduced by excluding patients who were illiterate, and if the surgery exceeded 48 months, the patients were not eligible to partake in the study, as enough time is need for healing and recovery from surgery and reporting on one's satisfaction. Moreover, this time should not be too long to prevent recall bias [ 8 ]. Questionnaire were given to patients in different interval starting from 6 months to 3 years postoperative.…”

“…Weichman and colleagues reported that patients with a body mass index less than 22 kg/m 2 have higher satisfaction with their breasts, when compared with those who have prosthetic reconstruction with tissue expander or implant [ 18 ]. Wong and colleagues reviewed 62 patients, none of the 38 non-implant patients underwent major corrective surgery within 6 months, compared to three of the 13 (23%) implant patients (p = 0.01) [ 19 ].…”
