Pathogenicity of Mycobacterium avium Complex Serovar 9 Isolated from Painted Quail (Excalfactoria chinensis).

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Avian tuberculosis accompanied with many tubercular lesions in the liver and spleen was found in a painted quail at a zoological garden in Japan. Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) serovar 9 without insertion sequence of IS901 was isolated from the liver (1.3 × 10 8 CFU/g), oviduct (9.4 × 10 7 CFU/g), and intestine (1.5 × 10 5 CFU/g). The isolates were inoculated intravenously to chickens. The inoculated chickens showed clinical symptoms of avian tuberculosis. Birds are susceptible to MAC serovar 9 wi… Show more

“…Except under particular scenarios, NTM infections are also generally not transmissible from human to human (Bryant et al, 2016). Nonetheless, NTM have been known to infect animals such as chickens and quails (Meissner and Anz, 1977; Morita et al, 1999). Drug-susceptible M. fortuitum and M. abscessus were identified in a cutaneous lesion on the snout and nostrils of a captive Trichechus inunguis (manatee) in the Amazon (Reisfeld et al, 2018).…”

“…Recent BBQ experiments have focused on hormones (Andersson et al, 2004;Lõ hmus and Sundstrom, 2004;Lõ hmus et al, 2006), embryonic development (Ono et al, 2005), disease (Morita et al, 1999) and flight dynamics . There are, however, little data on its nutrient requirements.…”

“…Blue-breasted quail (BBQ; Excalfactoria chinensis), the smallest bird of the family Phasianidae, is considered a good laboratory avian model (Tsudzuki, 1994) and is often utilised in research (Morita et al, 1999;Ono et al, 2005;Lõ hmus et al, 2006). Broilers are always expected to grow as fast as possible, but the growth rate of experimental BBQ may need to be controlled.…”
