Abstract: Millions of hibernating bats across North America have died from white-nose syndrome (WNS), an emerging disease caused by a psychrophilic (cold-loving) fungus, Pseudogymnoascus destructans , that invades their skin. Mechanisms of P. destructans invasion of bat epidermis remain obscure.
