Abstract: The review summarizes the data of foreign studies on the relationship of the taxonomic diversity of the oral microbiota and changes in its composition with the development of the metabolic syndrome in children with obesity. This information is of scientific interest from the point of view of the search for new targets and possible ways of conservative treatment in order to prevent and treat obesity through maintaining the microflora of the gastrointestinal tract.

Currently, surgical methods of treatment are increasingly used to achieve remission of diabetes mellitus associated with obesity: laparoscopic gastric bypass, longitudinal resection of the stomach and others. In clinical practice, after this type of surgical intervention, patients often experience changes in taste habits and violations of tolerance to foods, nausea, vomiting, intolerance to the smell, type and texture of food. This review summarizes research data on the factors influencing changes in the gut and salivary microbiota, on the impact of microbiota composition on the development of obesity, on changes in taste habits in patients after bariatric surgery, and on possible causes of changes. To search for sources, Internet resources PubMed, Google Scholar, eLIBRARY.ru were used for the last 10 years, to access the full text of articles, the websites of publishers Springer, Elsevier and others were used. According to the search results, 101 sources were analyzed, 60 of them are included in this review.

Obesity is currently a major global public health problem. As a result, in recent decades there has been a growing interest in studying the impact of this disease on the functioning of the central nervous system. One of the least understood aspects is the impact that obesity has on sensory systems.The olfactory and gustatory systems are closely related to various vital functions, such as the nocifensors activation, the stimulation of digestive reflexes. In addition, these sensory systems are known to play an important role in the mechanisms of food consumption through the regulation of appetite and satiety, influencing food choice and, therefore, they are involved in the development of obesity. A number of clinical studies have shown that obese patients are more likely to suffer from hyposmia compared to lean people of the same age.The reasons why this relationship exists remain largely unclear. The aim of this review is to assess the available data on this topic and to identify new promising areas for further research. The review was conducted in the PubMed databases for 2017–2023.

Assessing salivary innate immune responses in adolescents with dentofacial abnormalities and central precocious puberty

Relevance. Central precocious puberty (CPP), characterized by a high incidence of 60% among endocrinopathies during puberty, significantly influences dentofacial development and the local immune defense mechanisms in adolescents. However, the impact on saliva's innate immune function remains underexplored.This study aims to evaluate the innate immune function of saliva in individuals with CPP coexisting with dentofacial abnormalities.Materials and methods. An analysis of saliva biochemical markers was conducted on 59 adolescents diagnosed with CPP and dentofacial abnormalities, alongside a control group of 21 age-matched individuals with dentofacial abnormalities but without systemic conditions, aged 13-18 years. The evaluation focused on lysozyme and urease levels, dysbiosis markers indicating oral microbiota status, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and catalase activity to gauge the balance between pro-oxidant and antioxidant systems, alongside proteolytic enzyme elastase activity.Results. Adolescents with combined CPP and dentofacial abnormalities exhibited weakened antioxidant and antibacterial defenses, evidenced by decreased catalase activity (0.105 ± 0.020 mkat/l, p < 0.001) and lysozyme levels (54.7 ± 3.2 U/l, p < 0.02), against a backdrop of increased lipoperoxidation and microbial contamination (MDA levels at 0.48 ± 0.11 μmol/l, p < 0.05, urease levels at 0.713 ± 0.015 μkat/l, p < 0.01), and heightened inflammation (elastase activity up to 2.71 ± 0.12 μkat/l, p < 0.01).Conclusion. The diminished innate immune function in saliva necessitates the development of strategies to enhance it, serving as a preventive measure against gingivitis in patients with CPP.
