Pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis: Current concepts

Abstract: Atopic dermatitis is the most common, yet more troublesome, inflammatory skin disease affecting mankind and its prevalence is increasing globally. In established disease, inflammation and pruritus dominate the clinical picture. Thanks to a group pioneering of dermatological scientists, we are now beginning to understand how inflammation is initiated by a primary defect in the epidermal skin barrier.
