Show more

“…This number increased to 28.010 in 2016, which represents an annual growth of 4% along these years, according to World Intellectual Property Organization (World Intellectual Property Organization, 2018). These patents filed in this country were influenced by the universities which increasing from 168 to 293 their average number of granted patents (a growth of 42.6%) from the 1990s to the 2000s (Cativelli and Lucas, 2016). This demonstrates an expressive participation of the universities in the total of patents granted in Brazil, since the share of the universities increase from 3% in 2000 to 18% in 2012 on total Brazil granted patents.…”

“…Moreover, engineering with medicine and science are three knowledge fields with high levels of activities of invention communications and patenting (Chapple et al, 2005; Jensen & Thursby, 2001; Siegel et al, 2003). More specifically, in Brazil, patents granted to public universities are developed by professors with backgrounds in chemistry and mechanical engineering (Cativelli & de Oliveira Lucas, 2016) which indicates that the presence of engineers in the TTO can facilitate the interaction between them and the professors that generate the academic inventions.…”
