Patch antennas loaded by inhomogeneous substrates: a combined spectral domain - genetic algorithm approach

Abstract

The optimized design of patch antennas with inhomogenwirs loading materials is presented in this letter. The una!vsis and a /;rat coarse design of the antennas i. s demanded to a nuinericul tool based on the Method of Moments (MUM) and on a full-nuve,formulation developed in the spectral domain that e.rplnits both rigorous mid asynptotic closed form expressiam uf the Greeu ' s Jimctiun of a stratified integrated stnictare with inhomogeneous substrares. In order to match the specilic prescribed reyuirenients /in-the antennas, then, the optimization ofthe putch shape fine design) is perJormed by a dedicated subroutine implenienting the Genetic Algorithm search and intepzted in the aforementioned MaM numerical tool.
