Past, present and future of the Kyrgyz horse

Abstract

The Kyrgyz horse is one of the oldest animal species. This is confirmed by the materials and statements of scientists-ethnographers, which were based on the works of historiographers and the results of archaeological excavations. Genetic research once again testifies to the long evolution and four thousand-year Genesis of this type of horse. The native Kyrgyz horse is a unique type of mountain horse that has a distinctive population feature, formed by centuries-old folk selection and under the strong influence of natural and climatic conditions in the process of natural selection. Historical sketches of the past centuries testify to the merits and identity of the Kyrgyz horse. Their numbers are limited, and the risk of extinction of native animals as an element of biodiversity will greatly affect human wellbeing in the present and future, especially a serious negative impact on the communities of mountain villages in the country.
