This paper devises a new method for estimating the maximum response and maximum control force for high-rise base-isolated buildings with active structural control (active base isolation) to simplify the conventional complex design procedure. While active base isolation has emerged as a prominent solution for achieving high control performance, its design process is inherently complex, particularly when applied to high-rise buildings where wind loads become prominent. To address this problem, we propose a streamlined method inspired by the gust factor methodology widely used in conventional passive wind-resistant designs. This method estimates the maximum response and maximum control force without the need for numerical simulations. We first construct an equivalent passive model of a multi-degree-of-freedom control system to theoretically compute the dynamics of the system. Based on the constructed equivalent passive model and then propose a method to calculate the mean displacement and mean control force using only the static equilibrium of this model. Furthermore, we extend the conventional gust factor approach to active base isolation to estimate the maximum displacement and maximum control force for active base isolation without the need for numerical simulations. We validate our methods through a series of numerical examples, incorporating key parameters such as feedback gain, aspect ratio of building, return period of wind force, and stiffness of isolation. Numerical verifications show that the mean response and mean control force are estimated by the static equilibrium of the proposed equivalent passive model. Moreover, the maximum response and maximum control force can be estimated by the proposed gust factors. Our methods can be applied for feedback control systems using a given feedback gain.

Salah satu sumber getaran pada kapal adalah akibat kerja mesin induk. Material struktur menjadi salah satu penentu besarnya amplitudo yang terjadi. Kapal monohull dengan penggunaan 3 mesin menjadi objek dari penelitian ini. Getaran pada dinding di ruang penumpang menjadi penting ketika amplitudo yang terjadi mengganggu penumpang di dalamnya. Karakteristik getaran perlu diketahui agar dapat dicarikan solusi untuk mengatasinya. Pengukuran getaran langsung di kapal menggunakan vibrometer dan dilanjutkan dengan menggunakan simulasi hingga diperoleh karakteristik getaran pada dinding kapal ini. Hasil pengukuran di lapangan menunjukkan angka amplitudo di atas 0,2 mm melebihi batas yang diijinkan yaitu 0,02 mm. Diperlukan simulasi untuk menggambarkan distribusi getaran pada dinding kapal. Hal ini untuk mempermudah proses analisa pola distribusi getaran . Hasil simulasi pada dinding kapal menunjukkan bahwa getaran dalam arah vertikal mempunyai nilai amplitudo yang lebih besar dan frekuensi lebih rendah dibandingkan arah getaran horisontal. Hal ini mengindikasikan konstruksi dalam keadaan buruk jika frekuensi natural dari sistem tersebut mendekati nilai frekuensi eksitasi akibat operasional mesin. Getaran yang diteruskan dari sumber getaran tidak teredam dengan baik dalam arah vertikal. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan besarnya nilai amplitudo yang mencapai 10 kali lebih besar dari amplitudo arah getaran horisontal. Penelitian ini menunjukkan diperlukan peredam pada bagian dinding kapal agar getaran dalam arah vertikal dapat dikurangi. Adapun cara meredam getaran dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai cara. Solusi untuk mengurangi getaran ini menjadi peluang untuk dilakukan penelitian lainnya.

Nonlinear energy sinks (NESs) with broad energy absorption and inerters with substantial mass amplification effect have found widespread investigation for vortex-induced vibration (VIV) control in recent years. However, these studies commonly overlook the sensitivity of vertical nonlinear vibration systems to additional loading effect, especially in terms of weight variations. To this end, the present study delves into the examination of the influence exerted by weighty nonlinear energy sink inerters (NESIs), specifically the bistable nonlinear energy sink inerter (BNESI) and the cubic stiffness nonlinear energy sink inerter (CNESI), on the control efficacy of VIV in structures. Universal models for the NESI-beam system, accounting for the effects of weight, have been established and numerically solved. It has been found that VIV is more sensitive to weight effects compared to harmonic forced vibration (HFV), as under weight, VIV vibrations generate more transient resonance capture (TRC) frequency ratio components, leading to a decrease in vibration control capability. The degradation of the VIV control capability is essentially due to the variation in the effective control parameter range of NESI caused by weight effects. The adoption of inerters with small inertance coefficients and large spacing between ends can significantly overcome this limitation. Moreover, the enhanced NESI system balances weight by positive linear stiffness elements, thus circumventing the impact of weight on the nonlinear stiffness system. It not only eliminates weight effects but also restricts static displacement of the mass block.
