Partitioning the Right Ventricle Into 15 Segments and Decomposing Its Motion Using 3D Echocardiography-Based Models: The Updated ReVISION Method

Abstract: Three main mechanisms contribute to global right ventricular (RV) function: longitudinal shortening, radial displacement of the RV free wall (bellows effect), and anteroposterior shortening (as a consequence of left ventricular contraction). Since the importance of these mechanisms may vary in different cardiac conditions, a technology being able to assess their relative influence on the global RV pump function could help to clarify the pathophysiology and the mechanical adaptation of the chamber. Previously, … Show more

“…Finally, the relative contribution of the longitudinal (LEF), radial (REF), or anteroposterior (AEF) RV wall motion to global RV pump function can be expressed by the ratio of the given directional ejection fraction to global RVEF. Global and regional 3D LS and circumferential (CS) strains were calculated as previously described [ 17 ].

“…3D RV models were exported throughout the cardiac cycle as a 3D object file series and transferred to ReVISION software. The detailed analytical method of ReVISION software has been described elsewhere (10). Briefly, the software calculates conventional volumetric parameters, i.e., RV end-diastolic volume (RVEDV), RV endsystolic volume (RVESV), and RV ejection fraction (RVEF).…”
