Abstract. Microchannel reactors made of packed wafer stacks were used for selective hydrogenation of benzene to cyclohexene as well as for partial oxidation of I-butene to maleic anhydride and ethene to ethene oxide. The micro structured wafers were catalytically activated by anodic oxidation of aluminum wafers followed by an impregnation process with ruthenium for benzene hydrogenation and V 20sffi02 for I-butene oxidation or by physical vapor deposition of silver for ethene epoxidation.

l The hydrolysis of 1,4-butandiol in SCW proceeds selectively to tetrahydrofuran, whereby the tetrahydrofuran does not react further.l From a temperature of 350 C onwards, glycerine dehydrates to the desired product acroleine.l In SCW, ethyl acetate (acting for all esters) forms acetic acid and ethanol selectively during hydrolysis.l During the hydrolysis of acetonitrile in SCW acetamide and acetic acid are selectively produced in a simple consequential reaction.l The reaction of acetamide in SCW produces predominately acetic acid, only a minor part dehydrates to acetonitrile. The results show that the reaction velocity depends on a number of factors. Since some of the effects counterreact with others, it is impossible to predict precise reaction kinetics in SCW. To explain the results obtained and to correlate them with the solvent properties of SCW, further and more elaborate kinetic investigations are necessary. Acknowledgment

1563weniger von der Temperatur abhangig. Neben Essigsaure wird auch in geringen Mengen Acetonitril gebildet. SchluSbetrachtungDie Versuche haben gezeigt, daI3 viele Hydratisierungs-und Dehydratisierungsreaktionen sowie Hydrolysen ohne zusatzliche Hilfsstoffe, wie Sauren oder Basen, in uberkritischem Wasser hochselektiv und mit hohen Raum-Zeit-Ausbeuten ablaufen. Allerdings werden komplexere Verbindungen, wie z. B. Acetoncyanhydrin, in SCW zersetzt.-Die Hydrolyse von 1,4-Butandiol in SCW verlauft selektiv zu Tetrahydrofuran, wobei Tetrahydrofuran nicht weiter reagiert. Ab einer Temperatur von 350 "C dehydratisiert Glycerin zum enviinschten Produkt Acrolein. Essigsaureethylester (stellvertretend fur alle Ester) last sich in SCW selektiv zu Essigsaure und Ethanol verseifen. Acetonitril wird in SCW in einer einfachen Folgereaktion selektiv zu Acetamid bzw. Essigsaure hydrolysiert. Die Umsetzung von Acetamid in SCW liefert uberwiegend Essigsaure, nur ein geringer Teil wird zu Acetonitril dehydratisiert.Bei allen Versuchen zeigte sich, daI3 die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit von vielen Faktoren abhangt. Da die Effekte sich teilweise gegenlaufig verhalten, lassen sich uber die Reaktionskinetik in SCW keine a priori Aussagen machen. Urn die erhaltenen Ergebnisse zu erklaren und mit den Eigenschaften des SCW zu korrelieren, sind weitere detaillierte kinetische Untersuchungen erforderlich. ----Die Autoren danken der BASFAktiengesellschaft, Ludwigshafen, f u r die finanzielle Unterstiitzung dieser Arbeit.
