Particleboard quality characteristics of saline jose tall wheatgrass and chemical treatment effect

Abstract: TitleParticleboard quality characteristics of saline Jose Tall Wheatgrass and chemical treatment effect showed superior qualities compared with those made with UF, regardless of the use of 7 NaOH treatment. The NaOH treatment deteriorated the qualities of the particleboards, but 8 did not affect the contact angles between the adhesives and JTW. The results, also, showed 9 that both mechanical strength and the water resistance were improved as particleboard 10 density increased. Particleboard using the particl… Show more

“…Statistical analysis has been informed about the significant difference between two types of plywood (Table II). The MOE is higher for high (Kwon and Geimer, 1998;Ajayi, 2002;Zheng et al, 2007). The standard value of MOE is 6890 to 1310 N/mm 2 (ASTM D3043-87) and this standard is followed by the ghora neem plywood.…”

“…Results for MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) exhibited the lowest contact angles, while MUF (melamine urea formaldehyde) and PF (phenol formaldehyde) had 25% higher values for the contact angle for both untreated and NaOH-pre-treated straw Russell and Johnston 1996). The differences between MDI and UF or PTP (polymeric material from triglycerides and polycarbonic acid anhydrides) and UF are even higher when the internal bond strength is measured (Boquillon et al 2004;Dziurka et al 2005;Mo et al 2003;Zheng et al 2007). The wax layer of the external surface of monocotyledons requires adhesives with a more lipophilic or non-polar character such as the adhesives used in WPCs (wood plastic composites) (Maheswari et al 2012), where natural fibres, which generally have a hydrophilic (polar) character, are chemically or physically treated or used in combination with coupling agents to increase their compatibility with a hydrophobic matrix (Han and Choi 2010;John and Anandjiwala 2008;Kabir et al 2011;Keener et al 2004;Khalil and Suraya 2011;Li et al 2007;Lu et al 2000;Maheswari et al 2012;Sinha and Rout 2009).…”

“…This context leads to introduction of new composites with enhanced properties, such as particleboards, oriented strand boards, plywoods, and hardboards. These products are currently known as suitable engineering materials for building and construction [1][2][3] . Non-wood lignocellulosic biomass such as grass, straw and agricultural residues present great potential for panels manufacturing, including particleboards 4,3 .…”
