Particleboard manufactured from Tauari (Couratari oblongifolia) wood waste using castor oil based polyurethane resin

Abstract: Several wood species from the Amazon region are used in the manufacture of furniture, which leaves behind large amounts of waste (slabs, sawdust, sanding dust and bark), thus causing serious environmental impacts. An interesting alternative for the use of these wastes is the manufacture of particleboards. However, few studies have focused on the behavior of Amazonian tree species and the wastes resulting from production with this type of material. This paper discusses the potential use of Tauari (Couratari obl… Show more

“…Similarly, Wu [17] showed that an improvement in MOR with raising the density of board. Such result is in agreement with others (Ganev et al, 2005;Hunt et al, 2008 andSantos et al, 2014) Also, it was noticed that the higher MOR value (234.6 kg/cm²) was attained in panels manufactured of 12 % resin. Such increase could be due an increase in bonded surface of OCCs and possibly due to OCCs surface coverage ratio increase with the resin (Young and Kim, 2007;Aryilmi andara,2012 andMalanit et al, 2009).…”

“…A exploração comercial dos recursos florestais está crescendo mundialmente, devido as aplicações de produtos à base de madeira (Santos et al, 2014). Nos últimos anos, a demanda de painéis de madeira, neste contexto, acompanhou a alta deste setor econômico e do mercado imobiliário (Freire et al, 2015).…”
