Particle Systems Characterization Using a Flat Cell Static Light Scattering Apparatus

Abstract: In this work a light scattering apparatus for the study of heterogeneous liquid systems of evolving morphology is presented. A Fraunhofer configuration consisting of a linear array of photodiodes is used to detect the light scattered by thin samples illuminated by a He‐Ne laser light. Temperature control is available. The instrument is tested with the polymerization induced phase separation of a thermosetting polymer formulated with a divinylester resin copolymerized with styrene and modified with poly(methylm… Show more

“…The resulting particle system is finally composed by micrometer sized particles with a moderate distribution of sizes, and a volume fraction of particles between 5 and 10%. The SLS spectra were measured with a flat cell static light scattering (FCSLS) apparatus built in our laboratory 14. The results obtained with the VM will be compared with those of the LMA, which was already used to model these SLS data with relative success 13.…”

“…In this work we present the results obtained from the size characterization of polymer particles embedded in a solid polymer matrix using SLS and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). For LS characterization the samples are measured with a Flat Cell Scanning Light Scattering (FCSLS) apparatus built in our laboratory [15]. The analyzed samples are the result of the solution polymerization of isobornyl methacrylate (IBoMA) in polyisobutylene (PIB) at complete conversion.…”
