Partially coherent sources whose coherent modes are spatiotemporal optical vortex beams

Abstract: We analyze three non-stationary partially coherent sources whose coherent modes are spatiotemporal optical vortex (STOV) beams. Using spatiotemporal (ST) Bessel--Gauss and Laguerre--Gauss beams (STOV-carrying solutions to the space-time paraxial wave equation) as eigenfunctions in the coherent-modes representation of the mutual coherence function, we derive the ST versions of $J_0$-Bessel-correlated, $I_n$-Bessel-correlated, and twisted Gaussian Schell-model beams. We model, in simulation, these ST random be… Show more

“…Future research can be related to the consideration of focusing partially coherent and partially polarized vector beams [45]. Of practical interest is the consideration of structured vortex beams with spin angular momentum (SAM) and orbital angular momentum (OAM) [46][47][48], partially coherent accelerating beams [49], beams possessing self-healing abilities in a turbulent media [50], and spatiotemporal optical vortex beams [51].…”

“…Partial temporal coherence sources may offer such benefits for STOVs. STOVs with partial temporal coherence have been recently investigated and demonstrated [7,8] . However, there has not been a report of tilted STOVs with partial temporal coherence.…”
