Partial least squares structural equation modeling-based discrete choice modeling: an illustration in modeling retailer choice

Abstract: Commonly used discrete choice model analyses (e.g., probit, logit and multinomial logit models) draw on the estimation of importance weights that apply to different attribute levels. But directly estimating the importance weights of the attribute as a whole, rather than of distinct attribute levels, is challenging. This article substantiates the usefulness of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) for the analysis of stated preference data generated through choice experiments in discrete … Show more

“…SEM is a widely used approach in management science and entrepreneurship based studies (Alam et al, 2019). In this study, PLS-SEM is used as it is considered suitable for complex models containing Role of knowledge sharing behaviour latent variables and the sole purpose is the investigation of relationships at the theoretical level (Hair et al, 2019). PLS-SEM has been used through Smart PLS 3.2.6 software package (Hair et al, 2016), due to normality of data issues, friendly interface, nature of the study, level of measurement and small sample size requirements (Chin and Newsted, 1999).…”

“…Notwithstanding, Mardia's coe cient for multivariate kurtosis revealed a normal multivariate distribution (2.618), this value is lower than that recommended in the literature (5.0), as suggested by several authors [42,43], so no measures were taken against multivariate non-normality [41]. Table 2 shows the descriptive analysis of the raw scores and the sub-tests according to the age group.…”

“…In a second instance, in order to respond to the objective of the present study, a Con rmatory Factor Analysis was performed (CFA). To carry out the CFA, the recommendation of a ratio was considered 10:1 (i.e., number of subjects for each parameter to be estimated in the model) suggested by several authors [40][41][42][43][44][45]. Data analysis was performed according to the guidelines and recommendations of several authors [40,42,44]: in addition to the maximum likelihood estimation method (MLE), through the chi-square test (χ²) the respective degrees of freedom (df) and the level of signi cance (p) the following adjustment quality indices were also used: Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR), Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Non-Normed Fit Index (NNFI), Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) and the respective con dence interval (90% CI).…”
