Parthenolide and abscisic acid synthesis in feverfew are associated but environmental factors affect them dissimilarly

“…Also in hairy root culture of Cichorium intybus, another plant species from the Asteraceae, the contents of different sesquiterpene lactones including crepidiaside B, 8-deoxylactucin and sonchuside A were affected by MJ and SA treatments, for example the content of sonchuside A transiently increased (Malarz et al 2007), consistent with the transient increase of parthenolide in our study. The extent of parthenolide accumulations due to MJ or SA treatments in this report was comparable with that observed in 2, 4-D-treated feverfew plants at 2 and 14 days after treatment (2.5-fold increase); but the high level of parthenolide in 2, 4-D treated plants was maintained for 2 weeks (Fonseca et al 2005). Our results also showed that parthenolide accumulation was affected by MJ and SA, but with a different intensity which was higher in MJ-treated plans (3.1 fold) compared with SA-treated plants (1.96 fold).…”
