Parking Management in Kota Lama Area Medan Using Spatial Analysis

Abstract

Parking Management in the Kota Lama area Medan is very important to research, in addition to the planned development and socialization of changes in traffic flow in this area, the Kota Lama Area Medan is also a historical place that is preserved. Sustainability which is reviewed in this study is parking which has always been a problem in this area and is also the same problem in almost every city around the world. The spatial aspect is carried out to optimize the results of selecting the best location in this area. Aspects reviewed planning, evaluation, and strategies including the relationships and interactions between users-communities, and the environment, including the sustainability of parking management in the future. The summary of the study found that the characteristics of parking spaces in the Kota Lama Area were dominant in the form of on-street parking which greatly impacted traffic congestion. Potential parking locations are found in areas along the main road such as on Jalan Ahmad Yani, and around Lapangan Merdeka. The type of parking space at these potential locations is directed to the maximum extent possible by applying off-street types in the form of parking pockets and vertical buildings.
