Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA) in Different Hispanic Countries: An Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling Approach

Abstract: Parental burnout is a unique and context-specific syndrome resulting from a chronic imbalance of risks over resources in the parenting domain. The current research aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA) across Spanish-speaking countries with two consecutive studies. In Study 1, we analyzed the data through a bifactor model within an Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) on the pooled sample of participants (N = 1,979) obtaining goo… Show more

“…Long-term exposure may induce impulsivity and exhaustion, resulting in increased suicide risk in males and females, respectively. 19,20 Contrary to our expectations, longer grade repetition (4 or more years) was negatively associated with SMRs for suicides associated with health-related motives, including depression in both genders and schizophrenia in males (Supplementary Table 5).…”

“…I try to do what is best for me, regardless of how that might affect others) of the Singelis Self-Construal Scale [44]. Parents answered on a 6-point-scale (strongly disagree (1), disagree (2), somewhat disagree (3), neither agree nor disagree (4), somewhat agree (5), agree (6), strongly agree (7)). The individualism score at the individual level was obtained by averaging the scores on the 11 items, so that higher scores re ected higher individualism.…”

“…Over the past fteen years, parental burnout has received increasing attention around the world [e.g., 4,[5][6][7][8]. In spite of this worldwide interest in the topic, the International Investigation of Parental Burnout (IIPB) recently highlighted considerable variations in the prevalence of parental burnout across countries [1].…”

“…Despite the reasons for taking a multifaceted approach to PB, the specific role of the four dimensions on its severity remains unexplored mainly because the validation study of the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA, Roskam et al, 2018) found a high correlation between the four dimensions. This high association was further replicated in several samples and in several languages (e.g., Arikan et al, 2020; Aunola et al, 2020; Cheng et al, 2020; Furutani et al, 2020; Gannaé et al, 2020; Hamvai et al, 2022; Manrique-Millones et al, 2020; Matias et al, 2020; Mousavi et al, 2020; Sodi et al, 2020; Stănculescu et al, 2020; Szczygieł et al, 2020). Not surprisingly, most subsequent studies - with notable exceptions such as Hansotte et al (2021), Roskam et al (2021), and Roskam & Mikolajczak (2021)—have used the total score for PB, leaving the contribution of PB-specific dimensions largely unexplored.…”
