“…But perhaps of greater importance is the fact that such intervention strategies have become more systematic because of the increasing application of research and theory. It is now almost expected that such intervention programs will be based on a needs assessment (Mensah, Schultz, and Hughes, 1983), be theoretically grounded (Davidson and Dosser, 1982), and be subjected to rigorous evaluation (Hennon and Peterson, 1981). Such a combination of research, theory, practice, and evaluation is long overdue (Sprenkle, 1976) and is truly indicative of the unique nature of a home economics approach to family study.…”
