Parent artery reconstruction for large or giant cerebral aneurysms using a Tubridge flow diverter (PARAT): study protocol for a multicenter, randomized, controlled clinical trial

Abstract: BackgroundThe treatment of large (10-25 mm) or giant (≥25 mm) cerebral aneurysms remains technically challenging, with a much higher complication and recanalization rate than that is observed for smaller aneurysms. The use of a flow diverter seems to facilitate the treatment of this special entity. In a previous single-center prospective study approved by the Ethics Committee and China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), we obtained promising results, showing remarkable safety and effectiveness for the Tubrid… Show more

“…The morbidity rate of atherosclerosis has shown an increasing and younger trend year on year with the population aging, and changes to living and social environments. Therefore, it is a serious threat to human health and life (3). In the present study, it was showed that the expression level of miRNA-634 in a cerebral infarction rat model was increased, compared with that in the normal control group.…”

“…The pathological changes of atherosclerosis mainly involve the aorta and medium-sized elastic arteries (3). Among these, the coronary artery and cerebral arteries are the most dominant (3). Furthermore, the lesion predominantly involves multiple organs at the same time (2).…”

“…At a mean follow-up of 10 months, 72% of the aneurysms were completely occluded and 24% were improved, with 4% showing no significant change 42. After approval from the Chinese FDA, the device is currently being studied in a multicentre, randomised, controlled clinical trial 43. In this study, Zhou et al will enrol 124 patients and randomise into a treatment group consisting of Tubridge or Tubridge with coils versus a control group treated with stent-assisted coiling.…”

“…In addition, the use of platinum–iridium radiopaque microfilaments allows for improved visualization of the length and diameter during the endovascular procedure. TFDs are available in several lengths (12–45 mm) and diameters (2.5–6.5 mm) and can provide a high degree of metal coverage (approximately 30.0–35.0%) at the aneurysmal neck after full opening, with a lower shortening rate [ 11 ].…”
