“…MacCallum (1905), Erdheim (1906) and Kocher (1906) reviewed the occurrence of tetany in man after parathyroidectomy; the latter had nine patients who developed tetany out of forty who had total thyroidectomies; similar studies were made by Mayo and McGrath (1911), and by Pool (1915). von Eiselsberg (1915) reported fourteen mild cases of tetany, three severe cases, and three deaths from tetany in a series of 1300 operations for goiter.…”
