Paraneoplastic syndromes in cholangiocarcinoma

Abstract: Paraneoplastic syndromes are the symptoms or signs which result from damage to tissues that are distant from the site of malignancy, due to complex interactions between the body’s immune system and malignant neoplasm. Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is an aggressive epithelial malignancy of hepatobiliary tree and it is found to be associated with various paraneoplastic syndromes. “…Paraneoplastic syndrome in cholangiocarcinoma is a very rare condition with only a few case reports worldwide. Previous cases had shown predisposing factors that led to paraneoplastic syndrome in cholangiocarcinoma 2 . In this case, DM was thought to be the possible cause of paraneoplastic syndrome.…”

“…Previous cases had shown predisposing factors that led to paraneoplastic syndrome in cholangiocarcinoma. 2 In this case, DM was thought to be the possible cause of paraneoplastic syndrome. DM is an autoimmune inflammatory myopathy, characterized by proximal muscle weakness with characteristic skin manifestations, such as heliotrope rash, Gottron papules and the V-neck and shawl signs.…”

“…Paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS) refers to a syndrome of "distant" nervous system damage caused by tumors[ 1 ], the incidence of PNS was 1/100000 person-years, and the prevalence was 4/100000 or 1 PNS in every 334 cancers[ 2 ]. The current academic consensus is to classify paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration (PCD) as a "classic" PNS.…”
